Jerry Porter

Jerry hails from Yellow Springs, Ohio. From an early age, he was interested in learning how things work and in applying the insights he gained to put new things together.Jerry’s family gave him free rein to explore his rural surroundings and to experience life on his own terms. Frequent childhood visits to the local airport would lead to a lifelong interest in aviation. Later, Jerry studied at the College of the Virgin Islands, followed by graduation from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in aviation management.
Jerry’s inventive mindset would eventually yield a number of actual inventions including a fire-starter, a turkey baster sold by Tupperware, and the Reliant Provale Cup for individuals who have difficulty swallowing. Along the way, Jerry applied his student-of-life ethos to a wide variety of professional and avocational endeavors: He worked for a company importing experimental aircraft; he ran the Sperry Rail Test Car on the Southern Railroad system throughout the South; he quarried soapstone for sculptors; he learned the workings of a pottery studio while also attending premier craft shows throughout the U.S; he worked numerous medical equipment shows to promote funding options to medical researchers; and he traveled extensively as a sailplane contest enthusiast — even on one occasion meeting Prince Philip.
As a result of his lifelong fascination with new things and new possibilities, Jerry brings a contagious excitement to the Gopen Porter Partnership, LLC. He greatly enjoys brainstorming new approaches for introducing ever more people to the wonderful scholarship of George Gopen’s Reader Expectation Approach.
